Unemployment Rate for June 2016 Rose in Union, Crittenden and Webster Counties Compared to June 2015

Unemployment rates fell in 64 Kentucky counties between June 2015 and June 2016, rose in 49 counties, including Union, Crittenden and Webster, and remained the same in seven counties, including Henderson, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training.

In Union County, the jobless rate rose in June 2016 to 7.4 percent, compared to 7.0 percent in June of last year.

In Crittenden County, the unemployment rate in June 2016 was 5.7 percent, up slightly from 5.6 percent recorded in June 2015.

In Webster County, the jobless rate in June 2016 rose to 5.9 percent, compared to 5.4 percent from June 2015.

And in Henderson County, the employment rate remained the same between June 2015 and June 2016 at 5.1 percent.

Woodford County continued to record the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth at 3.6 percent, while Magoffin County continued to record the state’s highest unemployment rate at 16.8 percent.

State officials say unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends than actually to count people working. It does not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks.
