Union County Dog Pound Updates Fiscal Court; Thankful for New Transport Vehicle

Union County Dog Pound Director Kathy Baird presented an update to fiscal court magistrates during Tuesday’s regular meeting.

Their biggest excitement right now at the dog pound, according to Kathy, is a new transport vehicle for the Union County Dog Pound, a surplus vehicle granted to them by fiscal court.

Kathy also stated she and Dog Warden Richie Jones have been working hard at the pound to serve the community.

She noted the Warrick County Humane Society in Newburgh, Indiana and Cache Creek Animal rescue in Anna, Illinois have each taken over 50 animals apiece this year.

So far this month, she said they have had 53 animals. Kathy added their Facebook continues to be their most successful tool in helping the animals.

At Trade Days, Kathy said they received a total of $444 from the event to be used toward vet bills, and she thanked Copper Roof Pet Grooming Salon & Boutique and Trade Days organizer Doug Rodgers. She added the dog show was a huge success with over 30 participants.

According to Kathy, the Low Income Spay/Neuter Vouchers have again been successful, and they have altered 30 animals since March. She stated it continues to be one of their most sought after programs, and they appreciate fiscal court and the State of Kentucky Spay/Neuter Grant funding for the program.

The Morganfield City Pool has set the date for the 2nd annual Doggie Pool Swim for Sunday, August 14, 2016.

Kathy also informed magistrates they do have several complaints about the gate being closed during business hours.

And she noted the annual Rabies/Microchip clinic at the dog pound will be held in September with cooler weather, but the exact date has not been determined at this time.
