A Providence man was arrested during a traffic stop Sunday night for drug-related and firearm charges.
Kentucky State Police Post 2 Madisonville reports a trooper conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 55 year old James L. Thomas after he made a u-turn and crossed the centerline on North Broadway in Providence around 11:20 Sunday night.
During the course of the traffic stop, state police say the trooper determined that Thomas was under the influence of a controlled substance.
During a search of Thomas, police reportedly found a plastic bag containing a crystal substance, believed to be methamphetamine. During a search of the vehicle, authorities say the trooper found a loaded semi-automatic pistol under the driver’s seat.
Thomas was taken into custody and lodged in the Webster County Detention Center for his second DUI, reckless driving, possessing meth and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.
