Clinton, KY (July 1, 2016)- Around 5:10 p.m. Friday, Kentucky State Police Post 1 received a report of a female on KY307 with a firearm that had allegedly shot two male subjects.
According to police, Troopers reportedly found a female, 68 year old Martha A. Ligon of Bardwell, at the intersection of KY1173 and KY307 north holding a handgun, but dropped it upon police orders. She was then taken into custody.
Authorities say a short distance away they found the woman’s husband, 68 year old Ray L. Ligon, in the passenger seat of a vehicle inside with a gunshot wound to his neck. Also located near the scene, police say another male, 28 year old Shane L. Courtney of Arlington with had a gunshot wound to the right shoulder.
Police report the preliminary investigation indicates that Martha A. Ligon was driving in Milburn with her husband Ray L. Ligon when, for an unknown reason, she began following what is believed to be a random vehicle. She then followed the vehicle into the driveway of a residence in Milburn and allegedly got out of the vehicle and for unknown reasons began firing shots at several random individuals. Police say no one was injured during this altercation and Martha A. Ligon then returned to her vehicle and fled down KY 307 north where she shot her husband in the neck. A short while later, the investigation determined Shane L. Courtney drove up behind the couple as they were stopped in the roadway on KY307 North where Martha A. Ligon shot at Courtney as he sat in his vehicle, striking him in the right shoulder.
Authorities say Ray L. Ligon was airlifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN where he was pronounced him dead just before 11:00 p.m. Friday.
Courtney was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN with non-life threatening injuries.
Martha A. Ligon was arrested early Saturday and lodged in the McCracken County Jail charged with Murder.
