Whitfield Receives Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, was the recipient of the “Senator Robert C. Byrd Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award” yesterday during the Washington Coal Club’s Annual Luncheon.

“It is an honor to receive this award,” said Whitfield. “The coal industry has long been the fuel that has provided affordable and abundant electricity throughout America and has been an important reason for our nation’s economic success in the global marketplace. I will continue to do everything in my power to stop President Obama’s unilateral regulations and radical climate change agenda. This President views climate change as the number one issue facing mankind, but I believe that providing jobs, boosting our economy, and ensuring affordable and reliable electricity for Americans are far more important issues.”

During the ceremony, Bill Bissett, President of the Kentucky Coal Association, recognized Chairman Whitfield’s tireless efforts in support of the coal industry. Bissett acknowledged Whitfield’s passion in fighting for support of Kentucky coal, affordable energy, and the many industry jobs in Kentucky and across the nation.
