Webster County woman killed in two-vehicle wreck

A Webster County woman was killed in a two vehicle wreck near Dixon Tuesday afternoon.

Kentucky State Police reports a preliminary investigation revealed that 39 year old James Machen of Providence was driving a pickup truck northbound on US 41-A around 2:00 Tuesday afternoon when about four miles north of Dixon his truck hydroplaned due to wet road conditions, causing the vehicle to cross into the southbound lane and hit a car traveling southbound driven by 51 year old Rebbecca Slinker of Clay. KSP says both vehicles ran off the road and crashed into an embankment.

According to state police, Slinker and her passenger, 71 year old Betty Cowan of Clay were transported by ambulance to St. Mary’s in Evansville where Cowan succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck, Machen, was transported by private vehicle to Baptist Health Madisonville for treatment of injuries.

State police indicate all occupants were wearing seatbelts.

KSP was assisted at the scene by the Dixon and Poole Volunteer Fire Departments, Webster County EMS and Providence EMS.
