VCSO: Two Owensboro Residents Arrested for Burglary After Police Chase

VANDERBURGH COUNTY, IN (WMSK) – Two Owensboro residents are behind bars facing burglary and other charges after a police chase.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office indicates deputies were in the area of Upper Mt. Vernon Road and N. Tekoppel Avenue around 9:40 p.m. Friday following up on a residential burglary report when they received information of a burglary at Plantation Estates that led deputies to believe the suspects might be in the area. Deputies located the suspects and attempted to speak to them, but authorities say they fled in a vehicle.

Deputies reportedly pursued the vehicle south on Tekoppel Avenue and continued west on Broadway Avenue towards Posey County. At one point during the pursuit, police say the driver and the passenger switched seats while the vehicle was still in motion.

According to VCSO, the pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle failed to negotiate the intersection at Strueh Hendricks Road and South Posey County Line Road and crashed into an embankment. However, they say the driver later identified as 26 year old Roger Dale Douglas of Owensboro, jumped out of the the vehicle and fled into a wooded area. Authorities report an unconscious female, later identified as 26 year old Deserae Nicole Gonzalez-Coomes of Owensboro, was located in the back seat of the vehicle.

According to authorities, Douglas was arrested by Sheriff’s deputies and Evansville Police officers after he was tracked by a K-9 unit and found hiding in the woods.

The sheriffs’s office indicates Douglas was transported to Deaconess Hospital for treatment of a dog bite. He was later released from the hospital and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail.

Gonzalez-Coomes was also reportedly treated at the hospital and then booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail.

According to VCSO, the vehicle the suspects fled in was stolen out of Owensboro, Kentucky. Evidence recovered from inside the vehicle allowed the Sheriff’s Office to link both suspects to the earlier residential burglary.
