VCSO: Man Arrested after Allegedly Beating and Pepper Spraying his Pregnant Girlfriend

An Evansville man was arrested after he allegedly beat and pepper sprayed his pregnant girlfriend while she drove a vehicle on US 41.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies responded to a domestic violence call in the 18-thousand block of North US 41 around 4:00 a.m. Monday and found the female victim lying in the roadway near the vehicle where she was being attended to by other motorists.

According to authorities, the female victim reported she was assaulted by her boyfriend, John Nathan Bartlett, during an argument that occurred while she was driving. She explained that her boyfriend began hitting her in the face with his hands and feet, and then sprayed her in the face with pepper spray. Police say the victim also told deputies that she is pregnant with her boyfriend’s child.

Authorities indicate Bartlett had initially fled from the scene on foot but returned just prior to the arrival of sheriffs’ deputies. He was taken into and charged for Battery With Injury to Pregnant Woman, Battery with Moderate Injury, Domestic Battery and Criminal Recklessness. In addition, authorities say Bartlett was served with a probation revocation warrant related to a 2015 possession of methamphetamine arrest. Bartlett was lodged in the Vanderburgh County Jail.
