LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The University of Louisville Foundation’s chairman says the organization’s assistant secretary has been placed on paid leave in another shake-up at the school’s fundraising arm.

The Courier-Journal (http://cjky.it/2dhAJwp ) reports that in her role as assistant secretary, Kathleen Smith ran the foundation’s day-to-day operations.

Smith also served as former UofL president James Ramsey’s chief of staff. The 69-year-old Smith retired as the president’s chief of staff earlier this month but had wanted to stay on through the end of the year at the foundation to complete some projects.

Foundation chairman Brucie Moore announced in an email to members of the board of trustees that Smith was placed on paid leave.

Placing Smith on paid leave was among many demands that trustees made of the foundation to avoid being sued by the board.
