Union Co. unemployment rate rose in October 2015 from October 2014

Unemployment rates fell in 109 Kentucky counties between October 2014 and October 2015 and rose in seven counties, including Union County, and remained the same in four counties, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training.

In Union County the October 2015 unemployment rate went up to 5.4 percent compared to 5.2 percent for October of last year. However, the October unemployment rate for this year is lower than the previous month when it was 5.7 percent for September 2015.

In Crittenden County the jobless rate for October 2015 was 4.0 percent down from 4.8 percent in October of last year and a drop from the September 2015 unemployment rate of 4.4 percent.

In Henderson County the unemployment rate for October 2015 was 4.1 percent down from 4.8 percent in October of 2014 and lower than the September 2015 jobless rate of 4.3 percent.

Iin Webster County the unemployment rate of 4.3 percent was the same for October of this year compared to October 2014, and a drop from the 4.5 percent jobless rate reported in September 2015.

According to state officials, Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth of 2.8 percent, while Magoffin County continued to record the state’s highest unemployment rate at 11.3 percent.

Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working. Civilian labor force statistics include non-military workers and unemployed Kentuckians who are actively seeking work, but does not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks.
