UPDATE: NORTHBOUND Work Zone Lane Restriction on US 41 Twin Bridges THIS MORNING
Navigational light work is completed. All lanes are now OPEN.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to restrict NORTHBOUND traffic to one lane on the US 41 Twin Bridges between Henderson and Evansville starting at about 8:15 a.m., THIS MORNING.
The northbound lanes on the US 41 Twin Bridges will be restricted to one lane to allow emergency work on the navigation lights on the northbound bridge. At this time, it appears that a line of showers moving across the region will be out of the Henderson area by the time this work zone goes up. If there is substantial rainfall this northbound work zone will be cancelled.
The work zone is expected to go up about 8:15 a.m., CST, and remain up until about 2:30 p.m., CST.
Northbound motorists traveling US 41 at Henderson should be alert for slowing and merging traffic as they approach Audubon State Park.
Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and maintenance personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.
There should be no impact on southbound traffic while this daytime work zone lane restriction for northbound traffic is in place.
The US 41 Twin Bridges, also known as the Bi-State Viet Nam Gold Star Memorial Bridges, are located at US 41 mile point 19.649 about a mile south of the Kentucky-Indiana State Line. They carry approximately 40,000 vehicles per day across the Ohio River between Henderson, KY, and Evansville, IN.
The bridges are located about a mile downstream from the confluence of the Green River and the Ohio River at Ohio River navigation mile point 786.8.
The northbound bridge was opened to traffic on July 4, 1932. The southbound bridge was opened to traffic on December 16, 1965.
The Twin Bridges have a total length of 5, 393.6 ft. with a 720 ft. main navigation span. The bridge superstructure is a Warren cantilevered through-truss design.
As a reminder, the Indiana Department of Transportation has a bridge and pavement rehabilitation project between the US 41 Twin Bridges and the I-69 Interchange with US 41. This work zone for the Fix for 41 project remains active into the summer of 2019.
