Final Week of I-69 Bridge Crossing Draft Environmental Impact Statement Public Comment Period

Comment period ends February 8

Evansville, Ind. (Feb. 4, 2019) – This is the final week for residents to share feedback on the preferred alternatives for the proposed I-69 Ohio River Crossing (I-69 ORX). The Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) public comment period ends Friday, Feb. 8. The comment period opened on Dec. 14 with publication of the DEIS.

Written comments can be received through the “Contact Us” page on the project website, by email (info@I69ohiorivercrossing.com), by mail or delivered in person to an I-69 ORX project office. More than 200 comments have been received to date including more than 60 comments received during formal comment sessions at public hearings in early January.

Nearly 350 people attended the public hearings, and nearly 70 people attended Community Conversations later in the month. Community Conversation attendees were encouraged to leave written feedback on-site or share written comments with the team prior to the Feb. 8 deadline.

During the comment period, the Henderson office is staffed Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and the Evansville office is staffed Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment.

Public feedback plays an important role in the decision-making process. After considering all comments, the states will identify a preferred alternative in the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS). Final approval of the preferred alternative will come from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) through the issuance of a Record of Decision (ROD). The FEIS and ROD are expected in late 2019.

Preferred Alternatives
The DEIS identified two preferred alternatives: Central Alternative 1A and Central Alternative 1B. The route, bridge location and lane configurations are identical for the two alternatives. Both include a 4-lane I-69 bridge and retain one US 41 bridge.

The tolling options are the only difference between the two alternatives. Central Alternative 1A would toll both the I-69 bridge and the remaining US 41 bridge. Central Alternative 1B would toll only the I-69 bridge.
