As a reminder, a contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans a work zone traffic shift along the US 60/Wendell Ford Expressway around Owensboro on Monday, October 26, 2015.
Two-way traffic is currently running along the eastbound lanes to allow work along the westbound lanes with westbound ramps to US 431 and KY 81 closed for reconstruction.
Starting Monday around 9:00 a.m., one lane of traffic will be shifted to the outside or driving lane in each direction. This traffic shift will allow the westbound ramps at Exit 14 for US 431/Frederica Street and Exit 11 for KY 81/West Parrish Avenue to reopen.
The traffic configuration with one lane of traffic in each direction along the driving lane is to allow work to continue along the median area. While most of the roadway reconstruction is completed, the contractor will use this traffic configuration to mill rumble strips, remove crossovers, repaint traffic stripes, remove traffic delineators required for the previous traffic alignment, and perform other finish work along the median area and inside lanes.
Again, this traffic shift is expected to take place after about 9:00 a.m., CDT, on Monday, after traffic signal heads that were moved to accommodate the current alignment are reset at the west end of the project. Motorists are asked to use extra caution through the day on Monday while workers are placing traffic control and signage required for the updated configuration.
This work zone along U.S. 60/The Wendell Ford Expressway around Owensboro runs from mile point 10.179 at KY 331/Bon Harbor Hills Road extending eastward to mile point 15.50 near the Horse Fork Creek Bridge, a distance of 5.32 miles. This is along a section of the FORMER US 60 Bypass.
This work zone continues to have a strictly enforced 45 mile per hour speed limit with an enhanced enforcement presence. Motorists should continue to use appropriate caution due to equipment and construction personnel working along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow. This will continue to be an active work zone.
Once the main finish work is completed in a few weeks, the contractor may continue to have short lane restrictions for a month or more to allow corrective work at specific points along the project area.
Yager Materials of Owensboro is the prime contractor on this $17,756,397 highway improvement project. The project is about 90 percent complete. Due to some additional work added to the project, it now has a target completion date of November 15, 2015.
