Morganfield Lions Club Annual Banquet Scheduled for Wednesday, June 8, 2016

The Morganfield Lions Club will celebrate 73 years of service to the community with its annual banquet this week.

According to Morganfield Lions Club secretary Paul Monsour, the luncheon meeting will be held Wednesday at noon with a catered meal at the Morganfield KC Hall on Jim Veatch Road.  He says the Lions will install officers for 2016-17; present service awards to seven members; install three new members; and honor eleven Lions with attendance awards.

Monsour indicates outgoing president Jona Moore will be presented the Lion of the Year plaque.

The Morganfield Lions Club is expected to vote on several by-law changes, including one that would trim the number of times the club meets. Currently, Monsour says the club meets each Friday, except holidays and special events. Another change, he indicates would have the Club’s Board of Directors meet monthly, instead of sporadically.

The Morganfield Lions Club was chartered on May 6, 1943 and has 55 members. The Lions are involved in many eye-care and civic activities. Monsour says its major fundraiser is the annual Corn Festival held in September, which the Lions took over from the old Morganfield Jaycees in 1987.
