Multiple fire departments battled a house fire Wednesday on S. Morgan Street in Morganfield.

Morganfield Fire Department Chief Ricky Millikan tells WMSK News that firefighters were dispatched around 3:25 p.m. Thursday to a structure fire at 326 S. Morgan Street in Morganfield. He says Morganfield Police Officers arriving on the scene reported a working house fire with heavy smoke showing.

According to Chief Millikan, firefighters were able to contain the fire to the kitchen and attic area of the house.

The vacant home, owned by Elizabeth Cox, reportedly suffered smoke, water and heat damage.

The Morganfield Fire Department was assisted in fighting the fire by the Morganfield Police Dept., Union County Volunteer Fire Dept., Whispering Meadows Fire Department, Sturgis Fire Department, Morganfield Rescue Squad and Union County EMS, and the Waverly and Smith Mills Fire Departments stood by to help cover the city of Morganfield and the rest of the County.

Chief Millikan indicates the cause of the fire is under investigation, but is believed to be electrical in nature.

Firefighters were on scene for approximately 2.5 hours.
