Union County Coroner Steven Shouse has released the identities of the husband and wife found in their home Tuesday near the Boxville community. He identified the couple as 73 year old Garland Springer and his wife, 68 year old Jane Springer, both of 1129 SR 983, Morganfield.
Mr. Shouse tells WMSK News that Jane’s death has been ruled a homicide, and her husband’s death was ruled a suicide.
According to Shouse, “Mrs. Springer suffered from a highly progressive disabling illness with unsurmountable pain.” He says, “Mr. Springer committed suicide because he couldn’t live without his wife.”
The coroner called the homicide/suicide of the couple a “mercy killing.”
The Union County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the deaths.
