Man arrested after threatening multiple family members

Evansville Police have arrested a man who allegedly threatened to kill multiple of his family members.

Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of West Maryland Street at nearly 1 a.m. Friday after a 911 caller reported their brother was chasing them with a gun.

Officers arrived and identified two additional victims. All three victims stated Kristopher K. Bretz, 22, threatened to kill them.

This incident started when Bretz returned home intoxicated and verbally threatened to kill his brother.

When family members attempted to intervene, Kristopher Bretz struck his brother multiple times in the head and chest with a metal pot. He then threatened to kill another family member after his brother fled the home.

Kristopher Bretz was forced out of the house before being picked up by another person. The victims were walking together in the area when Bretz confronted them again while riding in the vehicle he was picked up in.

Bretz then exited the vehicle and pointed a handgun at all three victims. He then got back into the vehicle and left the scene.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle Bretz was riding in at a nearby residence. He was taken into custody and preliminarily charged with domestic battery with a deadly weapon, domestic battery causing serious bodily injury, intimidation, domestic battery with a protective order and invasion of privacy.
