CHRISTIAN COUNTY – Changes are coming to Exit 11 on I-169 as work continues to convert the Interstate 169, the former Pennyrile Parkway, and Kentucky 1682 interchange in Christian County from a cloverleaf design to a modern diamond interchange.
The new northbound exit ramp at Exit 11 is scheduled to open to traffic on Monday, Aug. 10. When the new ramp is opened, the existing northbound cloverleaf exit ramp will permanently close as crews begin connecting the northbound entrance ramp in its final location.
The northbound ramp to Interstate 169 will remain closed during this phase of construction and is expected to reopen in approximately three to four weeks.
The signed detour will remain in place. Motorists wishing to travel north on Interstate 169 should travel southbound to Exit 9, then use the northbound entrance ramp there to return to northbound Interstate 169.
Each ramp closure associated with the interchange reconstruction is expected to last approximately 30 days, with only one ramp closed at a time to help minimize impacts to traffic.
Once work on the northbound ramps is complete, construction will shift to the southbound side of the interchange. The first southbound ramp closure is currently anticipated around early September, with the remaining southbound ramp expected to close about a month later. Additional information on those closures will be announced as the construction schedule is finalized.
The project is replacing the existing cloverleaf interchange with an interstate standard diamond interchange, improving safety by eliminating weaving movements between entering and exiting traffic while creating a more efficient traffic pattern for motorists. The work is necessary to complete the steps that were required in upgrading the former Pennyrile Parkway to modern Interstate standards.
Motorists are encouraged to reduce speed, remain alert for changing traffic patterns and follow all posted signs while traveling through the work zone.
