Local sheriff’s office involved in pursuit that ended in Illinois

A call from local police last night led the sheriff’s office on a vehicle pursuit into Illinois.

Union County Sheriff’s Deputy Tracy Steinhoff reports he responded to the call from Morganfield Police Officer Eric McCallister around 11:50 p.m. Monday after the officer tried to stop a vehicle leaving Wal-mart on US 60 East, which continued onto the By-Pass and fled at a high rate of speed.

According to Deputy Steinhoff, he took over the pursuit at the intersection of US60W and KY 3393 and followed the vehicle onto KY 56 West into Illinois where several Illinois local, county and state officers joined the chase at the state line. The pursuit continued into New Shawneetown where officers momentarily lost site of the vehicle. Deputy Steinhoff indicates a Gallatin County Sheriff Deputy located the unoccupied vehicle near a cornfield outside of New Shawneetown and had it impounded.

At this time, Deputy Steinhoff says the names of the individuals are being withheld pending further investigation by local and Illinois authorities.
