Local circuit court clerks join colleagues for educational session at Circuit Court Clerks Fall College

Three local circuit court clerks recently joined other circuit clerks across the Commonwealth at the 2016 Circuit Court Clerks Fall College in Lexington.

The following local circuit court clerks received an update on the court system from Administrative Office of the Courts Director Laurie Dudgeon and attended session on jury management, record retention and court technology:

Union County Circuit Court Clerk Trish Tackett

Crittenden County Circuit Court Clerk Melissa Guill

Hopkins County Circuit Court Clerk Karen L. McKnight

State officials say the circuit court clerks also learned about their role in enacting new legislation, including House Bill 8, which took effect in January 2016 and extends civil protection – emergency protective orders and domestic violence orders – to interpersonal violence situations.

In addition, the circuit court clerks got an update on felony expungement as a result of House Bill 40, which took effect in July and allows certain Class D felony convictions to be expunged, which are processed by circuit clerks.
The fall college included 14.5 hours of continuing education credit for the circuit court clerks.
