KSP investigating fatal collision that killed Morganfield woman

MORGANFIELD, Ky. – Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal collision that killed a Morganfield woman this weekend.

KSP Post 16-Henderson received a call from Union County Dispatch around 4 p.m. Friday regarding a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of U.S. 60 Bypass and Kentucky 56 in Morganfield.

Kellie S. Hughes, 53, of Morganfield, was traveling southbound on Kentucky 56 in a black 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. A preliminary investigation determined that Hughes failed to stop at a traffic control device and proceeded through the intersection.

At the same time, James F. Crowdus, 78, of Morganfield, was traveling westbound on U.S. 60 in a white Toyota van. Crowdus’ van struck Hughes’ vehicle on the driver’s side. 

The Union County Coroner’s Office pronounced Hughes dead at the scene. Her passenger, Curtis M. McGuire, 49 of Morganfield, was taken by ambulance to Deaconess Midtown in Evansville, where he was listed in stable condition.

Crowdus was transported to Deaconess Hospital in Henderson for non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is on-going by the Kentucky State Police.

Kentucky State Police, Union County and Morganfield fire departments, Union County EMS, Morganfield City Police, Union County Sheriff’s Office, Union County Coroner’s Office and other agencies assisted troopers at the scene.
