GRADD NEWS RELEASE
Thousands of people have benefitted from the Benefits Check-Up in the GRADD seven county region. They have been able to be screened and find benefits that pay for prescription drugs, heating bills, housing and rent, food and meal programs, legal services, medical costs, in-home services, tax relief, veteran’s benefits, employment, phone service, weatherization, and many others. Until this event, people would have to apply for benefits at multiple locations. Now, they can get this done at one location in one visit.
“This free event will allow people to take the Benefits Check Up, which screens them for over 4,000 different programs, see their results, and to immediately meet with representatives of various agencies to sign up for those benefits,” said Ken Lawson.
The sign-up event will be Thursday, September 22, 2016, in the South Wing of Towne Square Mall in Owensboro from 8:00 a.m. until noon. GRITS will be providing free bus service from central locations in each of the GRADD counties.
Participating agencies include AT&T, Audubon Area Community Services, Crossroads, Daviess County PVA, DCBS, Health First Community Health Center, GRADD, Green River District Health Department, GRITS, Housing Authority of Owensboro, Owensboro Transit, Social Security Administration, and the Veteran’s Administration.
While many individuals throughout the seven county GRADD region have already benefited from the Benefits Check-Up, others remain challenged in applying for benefits due to transportation issues or the difficulty of navigating the application process. This event is an effort to overcome some of those challenges by bringing agencies together in a central location. In addition, GRITS will be providing free bus service to the event from the following centralized locations:
Providence: 7:30 – 7:45 a.m. 101 Center Ridge Drive
Sturgis: 8:00 – 8:15am 115 Old Providence Road and 221 S Hope Drive
Morganfield: 8:15 – 8:30am 703 Culver Street in the Courtyard
Henderson: 9:00 – 9:15am 703 Culver Street in the Courtyard
Hartford: 9:00 a.m. Ohio County Senior Center
