AUTHORITIES – ONE PERSON DEAD AFTER VEHICLE FOUND IN FLOODED DITCH IN UNION COUNTY

The Union County Sheriff’s office and Union County Coroner are investigating the death of a person found in a vehicle late last night here in Union County.
Rescue teams from both Union and Henderson Counties responded to the scene on Highway 359 near Hitesville Road where the vehicle ran off the road into
a flooded ditch. The dive team from the Henderson City Fire Department was called into to recover the victim according to a post on the HFD’s Facebook page
this morning. The post reads, “Our dive team just returned from Union County where our members assisted with the recovery of a person inside a submerged vehicle in a ditch. After the vehicle was located, our divers removed the body and turned it over to the Coroner. They then hooked the vehicle at the front and rear for the tow truck operator, who lifted it out of the ditch.
Of course, we are greatly sadden by situations like this one, however, we feel the risk is worth knowing we played a small part in helping bring closure to the family.”
The identity of the victim has not yet been released by the Union County Coroner’s Office. Kentucky State Police Post 16, the Smith Mills Volunteer Fire Department and other first responders assisted at the scene. We’ll have more information as it becomes available.
