Authorities: Man dies after shooting involving officers

HARLAN, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State Police say a man has died following a shooting with officers in Harlan County.

News outlets report that troopers say in a news release that the shooting happened about 7 p.m. Thursday in a wooded area near the Woodland Hills community.

Authorities say officers from Alcohol Tobacco Firearms, Lexington Police Department, and the Lexington Fire Department Arson Unit were involved in the altercation.

Trooper Shane Jacobs says as a result, deadly force was used. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials have not released the man’s name or information about what led up to the shooting.

Troopers say the man’s body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.

Jacobs says the investigation is ongoing.
