AARP Smart Driver Course being offered Friday at Henderson County Extension Center

The AARP Smart Driver Course will be offered this Friday at the Henderson County Cooperative Extension Service Expo Center, located at 3099 Zion Road in Henderson.

The class will start promptly at 9 a.m. and end at 1:30 PM. The course lasts four and a half hours. There are multiple breaks, and a box lunch is provided.

Participants will learn the current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques, and how to operate a vehicle more safely in today’s increasingly challenging driving environment. Participants will learn adjustments to accommodate frequent age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time.

Kentucky auto insurance companies must offer a discount to those drivers 55 and above who complete this course. The discount is applied for five years.

The class costs $25 for non-AARP members and $20 for AARP members. The class is free for people with an AARP UHC Medicare Supplement insurance policy.

Participants must attend all four hours of class to get a certificate of completion. Payment is accepted at the start of the course, and there are no refunds.

Pre-registration is required. People are encouraged to arrive early for class registration. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. Friday.

AARP-certified Driver Safety Instructor Nibby Priest will be teaching the class.
