Unemployment rates fell in 109 Kentucky counties between October 2014 and October 2015 and rose in seven counties, including Union County, and remained the same in four counties, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training.

In Union County the October 2015 unemployment rate went up to 5.4 percent compared to 5.2 percent for October of last year. However, the October unemployment rate for this year is lower than the previous month when it was 5.7 percent for September 2015.

In Henderson County the unemployment rate for October 2015 was 4.1 percent down from 4.8 percent in October of 2014 and lower than the September 2015 jobless rate of 4.3 percent.

According to state officials, Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth of 2.8 percent, while Magoffin County continued to record the state’s highest unemployment rate at 11.3 percent.

Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working. Civilian labor force statistics include non-military workers and unemployed Kentuckians who are actively seeking work, but does not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks.
