WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield (KY-01) on Thursday voted in favor of H.R. 5293, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2017. Whitfield released the following statement upon passage:
“Providing adequate funding for our nation’s military is one of the most fundamental duties of Congress. This bill fully funds the Department of Defense, including the brave men and women stationed at Fort Campbell, ensuring they have the resources they need to confront hostilities around the world. H.R. 5293 focuses on troop readiness, providing our military with the training, resources, and equipment they need to fulfill their missions and keep America safe and secure. I am pleased this bill also fully funds the authorized 2.1% pay raise for our troops and denies the President’s proposed troop reductions. Now is the time to invest in our defense, and this legislation allows us to sustain our military superiority while also fulfilling our obligation to allocate taxpayer resources responsibly.”
