WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, released the following statement in response to President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2017 budget request:
“After 7 years of fantasy budget requests, it seems President Obama has saved his best for last. Under the President’s proposal released today, spending will increase by $2.5 trillion, taxes will be raised by $3.4 trillion, and the national debt will more than double from the time he took office. Seeking to solidify his climate agenda legacy, President Obama’s proposed $10 per-barrel tax on oil further demonstrates how out-of-touch he is with the priorities of residents in Kentucky and across this nation. I look forward to working with my Republican colleagues to present a fiscally-responsible budget that grows our economy without further sending our nation down the path toward bankruptcy.”
