Whitfield Announces Nearly $90K Grant for Madisonville Community College

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01), is pleased to announce an $89,479 grant to support community food projects at Madisonville Community College in Madisonville, Kentucky.

The grant, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), is through the Community Food Projects (CFP) program and seeks to support the development of solutions to food insecurity and access to local and independent food systems for low-income communities.

“I am pleased to see Madisonville Community College receive this important funding,” said Whitfield.  “Improved food systems will have significant positive impacts for both consumers and producers alike in  Madisonville and beyond.”

CFP is an important part of USDA’s Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food initiative, which works to strengthen and support local and regional food systems.  More information can be found at: www.usda.gov/knowyourfarmer.
