The US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge has REOPENED to vehicle traffic after being closed since Tuesday morning to allow placement of a 550 ft. main span on the New Eggners Ferry Bridge under construction.
Highway traffic at the site resumed just before 5:00 a.m., today. All boat traffic remains halted at the site as the contractor removes jacking towers used to raise the massive structure into place. Removing the towers will allow barges used to float the 5.1 million pound basket-handle arch into place. That work is expected to continue through the day, today, with a fresh crew.
Again, the US 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge is OPEN this morning. However, all boat traffic remains halted and a 2000 ft. clear zone remains in place on Kentucky Lake. Thanks to everyone for their patience during this critical span placement on the new bridge.
