Union County Board of Education Meeting October 26, 2015

Union County School Board members heard several reports last night and recognized Governor’s Scholars and the UCHS Golf Team.

Union County High School Principal Evan Jackson recognized three Governor’s Scholars, which is a program that is designed to recognize future leaders and to promote leadership development within them.

The other two Governor Scholar’s recognized were Alex Steward and Morgan Welden.

UCHS Golf Coach Jeremy Curtis recognized five members of the varsity team.

Coach Curtis also shared some highlights of the golf season with board members.

Superintendent Patricia Sheffer commented on the sportsmanship and character of the golf team.

Director of Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment Sherri Collins presented the Accountability 2015 scores that were reported by WMSK News on October 1st that showed for the first time ever a Union County elementary school had reached Distinguished status in the state’s Unbridled Learning Accountability System. As previously reported, Collins shared with board members that that Sturgis Elementary School was the highlight of the district scores this year with more than a 10-point increase in overall score as well as increases in all three measured areas of Achievement, Gap and Growth.

In addition, Collins presented the ACT 2015 Juniors and Seniors data to board members that showed the ACT benchmarks and the College Career Readiness data.

The next regularly scheduled school board meeting will be held November 23rd at 6 p.m. at Sturgis Elementary School.
