Union Co. Fiscal Court Approves Tax Rates and Bids

Union County Fiscal Court magistrates approved bids and tax rates during Tuesday morning’s regular meeting.

Magistrate Joe Clements made a motion to leave the 2016 Tax Rate for the county at 9.1 cents per $100 assessed value of real property. Magistrate Jerri Floyd made a second on the motion and it was unanimously approved by all magistrates present at the meeting with the exception of Magistrate Gary Day who was absent.

Magistrates also unanimously approved the Union County Library Board Tax Rate as read by Judge-Executive Jody Jenkins.

Library Director Debbie McClanahan noted this has been the same rate for three years.

In addition, magistrates unanimously approved the Union County Board of Health Tax Rate.

In other business, magistrates unanimously approved a bid of $75,000 from Ron’s Concrete over two other bids submitted to fiscal court for the installation of Chapman Road Bridge.

Magistrates reviewed three bids submitted for the sealing of the jail parking lot and the parking lot between the jail and the County Attorney’s Office and unanimously approved the low bid of $3,124 submitted by Henshaw Asphalt & Paving.

And magistrates unanimously awarded a bid of $3,000 submitted by Mills Carpentry Service for the removal of teh loose and peeling pain on the exterior of the musuem.

In other action, magistrates unanimously approved a resolution approving the amended and restated Interlocal Cooperation Agreement with Henderson and Webster Counties, and the City of Henderson, establishing a solid waste recycling alliance with Tri-County Recycling Alliance. Due the downward spiral in recyclable commodities, the entities have been forced to reevaluate the economic viability and operation of the Tri-County Regional Recycle Center located in Henderson.

Magistrates also unanimously approved the minutes and July 2016 Treasurer Report and accepted the claims.

The next regularly scheduled fiscal court meeting will be Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. at the Union County Courthouse.
