Two Sturgis Women Indicted by Union Co. Grand Jury for Criminal Abuse of Child

Two Sturgis women charged in connection to the criminal abuse of an 11 year old special needs child were indicted Tuesday by the Union County Grand Jury during the September 2016 session.

The grand jury indicted 41 year old Marsha A. Gray and her daughter, 24 year old Suzanna Gray, for Criminal Abuse, 1st Degree – Child 12 or Under.

The charges stem from a video that surfaced in July and was sent to the local sheriff’s office, WMSK News, and other media outlets that showed the Grays’ allegedly abusing an 11 year old special needs child inside their Sturgis home.

Union County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Thomas told WMSK News that deputies and Child Social Services responded to the Sturgis residence of Marsha Gray on July 20, 2016 where the two women were arrested after an investigation into the incident.

Marsha and Suzanna Gray both entered not guilty pleas during their preliminary hearings in Union County District Court last month. Now that the women have been indicted the case moves to circuit court.

The grand jury also indicted the following individuals:

53 year old Joseph K. Belt of Sturgis for Burglary 1st Degree; 4 counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree; Attempt Theft by Unlawful Taking/Disposition-Auto $500 or more but under $10,000; Convicted Felon in Possession of a Handgun; and, Alcohol Intoxication, 1st and 2nd Offense. According to court documents, the grand jury dismissed a charge against Belt of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Jamie L. Lopez for Possession of Controlled Substance, 1st Degree 1st Offense, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Derrick Mosley of Uniontown for Burglary 2nd Degree, and Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree.
