Two Evansville people were arrested after leading police on an 89-mile pursuit on I69 that began in Bloomington and ended in Gibson County on Tuesday morning.
Indiana State Police Senior Trooper Jeremy Cox was patrolling I69 near the 117-mile marker in Bloomington when he attempted to stop the driver of a blue 2022 Chevrolet Silverado. He clocked the vehicle driving 83 mph in a 65-mph zone at about 9:49 a.m. EST.
Police said the driver refused to stop and continued south on I-69 reaching speeds of over 100 mph. On several occasions during the chase, troopers observed the driver and passenger discard a substance from the inside of the vehicle.
Indiana State Police and Gibson County Sheriff’s Deputies deployed stop sticks near the 39 mile-marker, which deflated at least two tires on the vehicle. The driver continued south at a slower speed until another trooper performed a successful PIT maneuver near the 25 mile-marker, causing the Chevrolet Silverado to leave the roadway and come to a final rest in the median.
Troopers found a small amount of suspected meth inside the truck. This is an on-going investigation.
The driver and passenger were arrested without further incident. Geonovan M. Bailey, 27, and Tiona E. Monie Sullivan, 25, both of Evansville, were each charged with resisting law enforcement, possession of meth, and obstruction of justice.
Both Bailey and Sulivan were taken to the Monroe County Jail.
