A traffic stop led to the stop of an Evansville man over the weekend.
Third shift motor Evansville Police patrol officers conducted a traffic stop in the 1600 block of North First Ave at just before 10 p.m. Saturday. Officers noted the odor of marijuana as they spoke with the occupants of the vehicle.
Upon removing everyone from the vehicle, a backpack was located in the floorboard where Noah N. Gonzalez, 18, was sitting. The backpack contained Draco style AK pistol, marijuana and items belonging to Gonzalez.
Gonzalez is currently under felony indictment for possession of a machine gun, which makes him prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Gonzalez was preliminarily charged with unlawful carry of a handgun and possession of marijuana. A second passenger was cited and released for possession of marijuana.
