Town hall to discuss Syrian refugee resettlement plan

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — The Bowling Green International Center has scheduled a town hall to address questions regarding the city’s plan to accept Syrian refugees.

The Daily News (http://bit.ly/27SlBxp ) reports that the meeting will take place Friday at the Professional Development and Learning Center at 5 p.m.

The center and partnering organizations plan to resettle refugees — including 40 from Syria — in October.

International Center Executive Director Albert Mbanfu says the center wants to inform people about how refugees come to the United States and resettle. He also hopes to address concerns about the screening process for Syrian refugees.

City Commissioner Melinda Hill has called the resettlement risky, saying the federal government has not put in place a good vetting process.
