Three injured in four vehicle wreck on I-69 near Mortons Gap

Three people were injured in a four vehicle wreck on Interstate 69 near Morton’s Gap.

Kentucky State Police reports troopers responded to the crash near the 109 mile marker around 2:00 p.m. Thursday where a preliminary investigation revealed 68 year old Elaine Begley of Oklahoma was merging onto I-69 from the northbound on ramp at Morton’s Gap when she hit a SUV traveling northbound being driven by 34 year old Allison Capps of Dawson Springs. Police say Capps SUV was then pushed into the left lane where it hit a vehicle being driven by 36 year old Cobie Smith of North Carolina. The wreck reportedly occurred in front of a semi truck-trailer driven by 49 year old James Huddleston of Madisonville who was unable to brake in time and crashed into the back of Smith’s vehicle.

Authorities indicate Smith had another passenger, Kania Whitlock of Evansville and two children in the vehicle. They say Smith and Whitlock were transported by ambulance to the emergency room at Baptist Health, but the children were uninjured. Capps was also transported to Baptist Health ER for treatment.

KSP was assisted at the scene by Medical Center Ambulance Service, South Hopkins Fire Department and the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office.
