Temporary Ramp Closure for Addition of Lane Restriction at I-24/Purchase Pkwy Calvert City Interchange on FRIDAY, April 8

KYTC NEWS RELEASE

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans a temporary ramp closure to install a lane restriction at the Interstate 24/Julian Carroll-Purchase Parkway Interchange at Calvert City on Friday, April 8, 2016.

As part of initial work on upgrades to allow Interstate 69 to be extended south along the Purchase Parkway, the contractor plans to restrict southbound traffic on the parkway to one lane within the interchange.  To facilitate installation of concrete barricades for this lane restriction, the contractor will temporarily close the eastbound Interstate 24 exit ramp to the southbound lanes of Purchase Parkway starting at 8:30 a.m., CDT, on Friday.

The installation of concrete barriers for the lane restriction along the southbound lanes of the parkway should be completed and the ramp reopened to traffic by about 3:00 p.m., Friday.

All southbound traffic on the Purchase Parwkay will be moved to the left-hand or passing lane in the work zone.  It is expected to remain in this configuration for an extended period.   Motorists should be alert for changes in traffic flow this lane restriction will create in the work zone.

This work zone includes an extended area at the existing Interstate 24 Exit 25 and Purchase Parkway Exit 52 interchange.

This work zone includes a 55 mile per hour speed limit with an enhanced enforcement presence and double fines.

Jim Smith Contracting of Grand Rivers is the prime contractor on the $37.8 million interchange reconstruction project.  The new I-24/I-69 Calvert City interchange has a target completion date of July 1, 2018.

The Transportation Cabinet will issue additional traffic advisories as work progresses to a point where it impacts traffic flow.  All main line traffic connections through the interchange will be maintained during the construction process.
