Single Vehicle Wreck Claims Life of Sturgis Man

A single vehicle wreck Friday in Webster County claimed the life of a Sturgis man.

Webster County Sheriff Frankie Springfield tells WMSK News 45 year old Ricky Harmon was pronounced deceased at the scene by Webster County Deputy Coroner Todd Vanover.

Sheriff Springfield reports deputies and emergency personnel responded to the accident on Dave Miller Road, about 3 miles north of Wheatcroft, around 7:55 a.m. Friday.

He says a preliminary investigation revealed Harmon was driving a pickup truck eastbound on Dave Miller Road when he approached a curve and the vehicle dropped off the left shoulder of the road. According to Sheriff Springfield, Harmon over corrected, causing the truck to skid out of control and exit the the east shoulder of the road and hit a tree on the truck’s passenger side. The vehicle then reportedly hit an earth embankment and went airborne, overturned onto the driver’s side and traveled along the shoulder of the road until it crashed into another tree on the driver’s side.

Sheriff Springfield tells me Harmon was pinned in the truck and had to be extricated. He says they were on the scene of the wreck until around 11:00 a.m.

Sheriff Springfield reports Deputy Scott Starky, the Clay Fire Department & Rescue, Webster County EMS, and Kentucky State Police Troopers Darren Holliman and Daniel Holland assisted at the scene.

A private family service will be held at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis.
