GRADD NEWS RELEASE

Hundreds of area senior citizens are expected to fill Owensboro’s Towne Square Mall on Thursday, September 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., for the 17th annual “Senior Day Out” event.

GRADD is partnering with Towne Square Mall, Kentucky State Police, Green River Regional Citizen Corps Council, and Green River Regional TRIAD/Elder Justice Coalition to present a day of free education and entertainment.

Attendees can learn about disaster preparedness, consumer fraud, identity theft, Medicare benefits, and.other timely issues, while enjoying food, fun, and live music.

“Senior Day Out always draws a great crowd,” said event coordinator Ursula Mabrey, with GRADD.

“It provides a unique opportunity for local seniors to fellowship and meet new friends, while also becoming better equipped to face potential threats to their personal and financial security.”

Presenters will include Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear and Gerina Whethers, Head of Senior Protection from Kentucky Attorney General’s Office; Johnny Allen, Benefits Counselor with the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs; and Battalion Chief Steve Leonard of the Owensboro Fire Department.

Performers will include musical guests Junior Cronin, Grayson Bryant (as Buddy Holly), and Brad McCrady (as Elvis).

This year’s Senior Day Out will take place in conjunction with a Benefits Check-Up.  This event will provide an opportunity to find out what benefits individuals may qualify for, as well as the ability to sign up for those benefits.  This event will be held in the former Hallmark store in Towne Square Mall.

This year’s event is sponsored by Atmos Energy, Danhauer Drugs, Help at Home, Humana, and Sleep Number.
