Sen. Mills releases statement about Supreme Court women’s sports decision

FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 30, 2026) – The following is a statement from Senate Majority Caucus Chair Robby Mills, R-Henderson, regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision upholding protections for women’s sports.

“Today’s decision is a victory for fairness, opportunity, and the integrity of women’s athletics. The Supreme Court has affirmed what many Kentuckians have long believed: women’s sports exist to provide women and girls with an equal opportunity to compete, succeed, and excel.

“For years, we have watched attempts to undermine the purpose of women’s athletics through policies that ignored biological realities. Today’s ruling recognizes that protecting women’s sports is not about exclusion. It is about preserving fair competition, ensuring athlete safety, and defending the opportunities generations of women fought to secure.

“I was proud to champion Kentucky’s Save Women’s Sports Act because I believe in the original promise of Title IX: giving women equal opportunities to compete on a level playing field. When young women dedicate countless hours to training and competition, they deserve to know that championships, scholarships, roster spots, and records will be earned through fair competition.

“This decision validates the work Kentucky has already done to protect female athletes and provides important clarity for states across the country. It reaffirms that acknowledging biological differences does not diminish anyone’s dignity, but instead protects the integrity of women’s athletics and the opportunities they were created to provide.

“Today is an important day for female athletes across Kentucky and the nation. We will continue standing for fairness, protecting opportunities for women and girls, and ensuring that the next generation can compete with confidence that the playing field remains level.”
