TRI-STATE – As COVID-19 numbers continue to exponentially increase throughout the region, member
hospitals* of the Community Patient Safety Coalition of Southwestern Indiana/Kentucky will decrease
visitation for hospitalized patients beginning next week, through at least mid-February.
Hospitalized adult patients will be able to receive one adult (age 18 or older) visitor per day. All visitors
must check in when they arrive and screen for COVID-19 symptoms or exposure. Masking will be
required for all visitors.

Coalition member hospitals may opt to maintain current restrictions for outpatient and emergency
departments, obstetric patients, NICU and pediatric patients, and hospitals may make exceptions for end-of-life visitation. Visiting hours and processes vary for each hospital, and visitors should check hospital
websites or call ahead for specific details.

The decision to decrease visitation for hospitalized patients has been made due to the widespread
prevalence of COVID-19 infections and increasing hospitalizations in the region. By limiting visitors,
hospital leaders hope to reduce transmission of the virus from visitors to patients and staff. Staffing and
other hospital resources are impacted at this time by both patient volumes and high numbers of staff
absences; together, these challenges are affecting hospitals’ ability to accommodate as many visitors and
their needs.

In mid-February, the Community Patient Safety Coalition will review hospital censuses, resources and
staffing to evaluate increasing visitation as soon as it is safe and feasible to do so.
Individual hospitals will reduce their visitation early next week. Visitors should check hospital websites
or call ahead for specific details.
