Random drawing selects 6 counties for election audits

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Attorney General Andy Beshear has selected six counties for postelection audits.

The counties of Calloway, Carter, Jackson, Leslie, Muhlenberg and Wayne were chosen in a public drawing on Tuesday. State law requires the attorney general to conduct postelection audits in no fewer than 5 percent of Kentucky’s counties. Beshear said the selection does not imply any election irregularities.

Beshear said his office has received 277 complaints from 66 counties, including nine allegations of vote buying. Beshear said all of the complaints were investigated and have been closed.

The State Board of Elections certified the Nov. 8 election results on Tuesday. Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes said 1.95 million people voted in Kentucky, or 59 percent of registered voters. Grimes said Kentucky’s presidential electors will meet Dec. 19.
