Pretrial Conference Continued Until November for Morganfield Man Charged in Armed Bank Robbery

A Morganfield man charged in connection to an armed robbery at a local bank appeared in Union County Circuit Court for a pre-trial conference Monday morning. Court officials tell WMSK News the pre-trial conference for Antonio Smith was continued until the morning of November 14, 2016.

Smith is accused of walking into Fifth Third Bank in downtown Morganfield around Noon on December 23, 2015, wearing a mask and armed with a handgun. Morganfield Police reported Smith then demanded money from the teller and fled the bank with around 10-thousand dollars, but dropped about 2-thousand dollars as he ran out of the bank.

After a week long investigation, Smith was arrested on December 31, 2015 by local law enforcement agencies at his apartment in Morganfield where officers reportedly recovered the handgun and several items of clothing worn during the robbery.

Smith was indicted by the Union County Grand Jury during the February 2016 session term for first degree robbery, two counts of first degree wanton endangerment and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun. He remains lodged in the Union County Detention Center.
