Police charge man with murder after remains found

HARLAN, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State Police say they have charged a man with murder after human remains were found in a wooded area near an eastern Kentucky subdivision.

A police statement says 27-year-old Michael Curtis of Cawood also faces charges of tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. The remains were found Tuesday morning near the Mountain Oaks subdivision in Harlan County.

Police say they can’t release the name of the victim until the state medical examiner’s office makes a positive identification, but troopers think the case involves a person who was reported missing to the state police post in Harlan.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether Curtis has an attorney.

No further information was immediately released.
