A routine traffic stop in Henderson County over the weekend netted the arrest of an Owensboro man for trafficking drugs and other offenses.
Henderson County Sheriff’s Deputy Stefon Douglas reports 20 year old Dakota Adkins was pulled over on 41-N and the Audubon State Park around 10:00 p.m. Sunday for operating a motor vehicle in a careless manner. When deputies made contact with Adkins they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the passenger compartment area. Authorities say Adkins admitted to using marijuana and was given a field sobriety test where he showed several signs of being under the influence of the drug. During a pat down, deputies reportedly found gold plated brass knuckles in his front pocket.
During a search of the vehicle, authorities say they found several baggies of pot in a hidden compartment under a center console along with several other items indicative of trafficking marijuana, as well as baggies, rolling papers and scales in the vehicle.
Adkins was taken into custody and lodged in the Henderson County Detention Center for trafficking marijuana less than 8 ounces, DUI, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, careless driving and failure to produce an insurance card.
