Overnight Shooting in Henderson Leaves One Person Dead, 2 Others Wounded.

Henderson Police make one arrest but investigation into murder continues

Henderson City Police say an 18-year old Evansville man was found unresponsive in the middle of Atkinson Street as officers responded to a report of shots fired outside a banquet center at 702 Atkinson. Jaiwaun Latrell Wadlinton was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say two other individuals were found with bullet wounds stemming from the same incident that occurred shortly after midnight. One of the other two victims has been hospitalized in critical condition at an area hospital. They are expected to recover. The second individual was treated and released.

Police have charged 18-year old Japaris Baker of Fairground Lane Apartment E in Henderson with Assault 1st and Assault 2nd Degree in connection with the wounding of the two surviving victims of last night’s violence. He is lodged in the Henderson County Detention Center without bond while awaiting his initial appearance. No one has yet been charged with Latrell Wadlington’s slaying and the investigation continues. Callers may remain anonymous and a reward is offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case. Authorities say last night’s events unfolded during a party at the Thomason’s Banquet Hall at 702 Atkinson street. Over 100 individuals, including numerous juveniles, were in attendance. At some point a fight broke out outside in the middle of the street and someone started shooting according to the police report. The 700 Block of Atkinson Street was closed to through traffic for several hours early this morning while officers collected evidence from the scene and interviewed witnesses. The street has since been reopened. The investigation continues. Henderson County Coroner Bruce Farmer tells WSON News an autopsy is being scheduled for today in Louisville.
