Officials: Woman dies following kayaking accident

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The Jefferson County coroner’s office has identified a woman who died following a kayaking accident in Louisville.

Fern Creek Fire Chief Mike Schmidt, Jr. tells local news outlets that the incident occurred Wednesday night at The Parklands of Floyds Fork. The woman, her 10-year-old grandson and her sister were in a kayak when they hit a tree stump, causing the kayak to overturn.

Emergency crews responded and found the three stranded on the water. The woman was transported to a hospital where she died.

The coroner’s office said Thursday that 55-year-old Sandra K. Mills of Shepherdsville died of natural causes and did not drown.

The woman’s sister and grandson were treated at the scene of the accident.
