New City of Uniontown Mayor sworn in

The City of Uniontown has a new mayor.

The former Uniontown Police Chief, Thomas “Buster” Byrd, was sworn in as the new Mayor at the Uniontown City Council meeting last night, according to city officials. Byrd will serve as Mayor for the calendar year of 2016 and then the position of Mayor will be on the November ballot.

As reported previously by WMSK News, Byrd retired as the Chief of the Uniontown Police Department on December 31, 2015 after nearly 30 years of service on the force.

Uniontown Assistant Police Chief Jeffery Hart says Byrd’s decades of experience and service to the city will be invaluable as he embarks on his tenure as Mayor.

Byrd was appointed to the position of Mayor after the former Mayor of Uniontown, Ricky Millikan, stepped down after he was hired as the Chief of the Morganfield Fire Department, effective December 31, 2015.
