Muhlenberg County Man Charged In Shooting

Greenville, KY (Muhlenberg County) – The Kentucky State Police are currently investigation a shooting that has left one man in critical condition.

On October 26, 2016, at approximately 1:50 p.m. Troopers from KSP Post 2 responded to 1154 New Cypress Road in Greenville, to investigate a possible shooting. Preliminary investigation revealed that Michael McCool, 51, Madisonville, while working for Aarons Rent-A-Center, went to the above address in an attempt to collect money on a delinquent account. After a discussion about the property, Cornelius Walker, 74, Greenville, discharged a firearm striking McCool, causing critical injury.

Mr. McCool was transported via PHI air ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital in Evansville IN, where he remains in critical condition. Mr. Walker was arrested and lodged in the Muhlenberg County Detention Center and charged with 1 count of Assault 1st Degree.

The investigation is ongoing by Detective Lloyd Ray. KSP was assisted at the scene by the Muhlenberg County Sheriff Department, Muhlenberg County EMS, Graham Volunteer Fire Department and PHI Air Medical.
